FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

The Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Historic Resources has notified Turn The Mill Around Campaign that Beverley /Chapman's Mill was appropriated $5,000 by the General Assembly for the 2007-2008 fiscal year. This nonstate agency grant was received as a result of a Senate bill sponsored by Senator Charles Colgan of Senate District 29. Senator Colgan is known for his interest and support of historic preservation projects, and especially Beverley Mill. This money will be used for site development of the eastern side of the mill property. Turn The Mill Around Campaign's mission is to stabilize the walls of the mill, open the site to the public and to provide educational and interpretive programming to the public.

These state funds must be matched dollar for dollar with non-state funds or with in-kind goods and services. The services donated by volunteers qualify as in-kind services. A money value can be applied to volunteer hours based on the service provided. At this time, Turn The Mill Around Campaign is in need of volunteers willing to slice quartzite rock drilled from the walls during the stabilization process. Paperweights will be made out of these stone slices and sold as a fundraiser. Later this fall volunteers will be needed to help with rebuilding the fieldstone walls on the eastern side of the mill property.

Turn The Mill Around Campaign is interested in maintaining a volunteer roster of people whom they may call upon as the need demands. If interested in volunteering at Beverley/ Chapman's Mill in any capacity, please call Ellen PercyMiller at 540-253-5888 or email her at
